JERUSALEM, May 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. tech giant Nvidia on Monday revealed that it is building a hyper-scale generative artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputer in Israel.

The supercomputer named "Israel-1," worth hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars, is expected to run at an AI performance of up to eight exaflops, making it one of the world's fastest supercomputers for AI calculations, the company said in a statement.

According to the statement, the supercomputer is expected to start operating by the end of 2023.

It will be used for collaboration with industries, for R&D, and as a template for building supercomputers based on the Ndivia Spectrum-X platform which was launched by the company at the same time.

The new platform is designed to improve the performance and efficiency of Ethernet-based AI clouds.

At a later stage, the Israeli supercomputer will be available as part of the company's DGX Cloud supercomputing service.
