JERUSALEM, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- French side JDA Dijon Basket achieved an 84-77 away win against the Israeli club Hapoel Jerusalem in the opening game day of the 4-team Group I of the Round of 16 in the FIBA Champions League on Wednesday evening.
Gavin Ware took the French side to a 23-17 lead before the first quarter ended 23-21. Markis McDuffie made it 31-23 for the visitors, but Levi Randolph helped Jerusalem turn the score around and take a 38-35 lead before Gregor Hrovat and Ware quickly put Dijon back in front on 46-41 at halftime.
Unstoppable Ware kept the French lead at the end of the third quarter, 67-61, then poor offensive plays by Jerusalem in the final quarter secured the victory for the visitors.
Ware contributed a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds for Dijon. His teammate David Holston finished with 20 points and 13 assists, while Mcuffie contributed 16 points and eight rebounds.
Randolph scored 14 points, while Zach Hankins added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Jerusalem.
On game day 2 on February 1, there will be an Israeli derby between Hapoel Holon and Hapoel Jerusalem and a French derby with Dijon hosting SIG Strasbourg.
