RIO DE JANEIRO -- Unemployment in Brazil fell to 8.9 percent in the quarter ending in August, the lowest level in seven years, the state-run Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics said Friday.

From June through August, the unemployment rate in the South American country dropped 0.9 percentage points compared to the March-to-May period, and decreased by 4.2 percentage points year on year. (Brazil-Unemployment)

RAMALLAH -- Dozens of Palestinian protesters were injured on Friday in clashes with Israeli soldiers in several West Bank cities and villages, Palestinian medics said.

Fierce clashes broke out between anti-settlement protesters and Israeli soldiers, during which six people were shot by rubber bullets, including an eight-year-old boy, while dozens inhaled teargas fired by Israeli troops, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement. KAMPALA -- Uganda's annual headline inflation for the year ending in September increased to 10 percent from 9 percent registered in August, Uganda Bureau of Statistics said Friday.

The agency attributed the increase in the headline inflation to rising prices of commodities such as rice and sugar, as well as services, mainly education. (Uganda-Inflation)

ISLAMABAD -- At least 15 people were killed in heavy monsoon rain-triggered flash floods in the last 24 hours in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

According to a report released by the NDMA on Friday night, at least 11 children and four women were among those who lost their lives in separate flood-related incidents. (Pakistan-Flood)
