RABAT, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Israel has vowed to enhance cooperation with Morocco in water management to help the North African country better cope with water shortages, Moroccan news agency MAP reported Thursday.
The pledge was made by visiting Israeli Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology Orit Farkash-Hacohen, when she addressed a bilateral technology and business conference on Wednesday in Casablanca.
Water shortages have pushed Israel to innovate technologically by promoting water desalination processes, wastewater treatment and smart irrigation, said Farkash-Hacohen.
Suffering one of its worst droughts in history, Morocco announced last month the construction of a new seawater desalination plant in the central city of Agadir to offset future drought periods.
The Israeli official also praised the development achieved between Israel and Morocco since the countries resumed diplomatic ties 18 months ago.
